Join us for our October webinar, where Martín Torres, an Architectural Engineering PhD student in Dr. Wil Srubar's Living Materials Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, will present his probabilistic LCA research.
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the primary methodology used to assess embodied carbon in buildings, but it seldom includes any assessment of the underlying data quality. Ignoring the variability in data quality can produce deceptively precise results, leading to ill-informed decision-making. Furthermore, existing methods of uncertainty modeling rely on poorly justified assumptions and are difficult to incorporate into existing practice.
This presentation will briefly review the basics of LCA for structural engineers before describing a novel method for uncertainty modeling and demonstrating its utility through a series of examples.
There will be Q&A at the end. See speaker bio below.

Speaker Bio:
Martín Torres, P.E., is an Architectural Engineering PhD student in Dr. Wil Srubar's Living Materials Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder. His work experience includes structural engineering and design at Walter P Moore and embodied carbon policy for the City of Austin, TX. Now, funded by the NSF-GRFP, his research focuses on characterizing the uncertainty of building material emissions in whole-building life cycle assessment.
