August 26, 2025 - CLF-LA Embodied Carbon Case Studies in K-12 at Practice

Join us for an evening at Practice for Embodied Carbon Case Studies in K-12. Casey Castor from Practice and Nikhita Sapuram from HED will share with us their recent K-12 projects in Los Angeles. They will discuss how they tracked, reduced, and reported embodied carbon in their projects. They will also share their approach and challenges with the CALGreen Embodied Carbon Compliance Pathways.


The office is easily accessible off the Metro A-Line from Downtown LA, and a parking structure is located adjacent to the office. Parking details provided upon RSVP.

Speaker Bios:


Casey Castor is the Director of Sustainability at Practice, where he has spent over a decade advancing sustainable design in projects across the greater Los Angeles area. With expertise spanning K-12 schools, civic projects, and affordable housing, he integrates building science analysis into every phase of project development. His academic foundation includes an undergraduate in architectural design and a master’s in building science from USC, which has shaped his metrics-driven approach to sustainable design.


Casey collaborates locally as Vice-Chair of AIA|LA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE), where he works to advance sustainable design practices, advocating for policies and strategies that harmonize built and natural systems. He also co-founded Mack Research, where their team is developing an innovative vertical wall wind technology for energy generation that is currently in R+D. Through leadership and project implementation, Casey is committed to pushing the industry toward innovative, climate-responsive solutions that support long-term environmental resilience.


Nikhita Sapuram is an Associate Architect and Sustainability Analyst at HED, specializing in sustainable design and green building practices. As a LEED and WELL Accredited Professional, she integrates sustainability into high-performance projects. With a Master of Building Science from USC and a Bachelor of Architecture, Nikhita brings experience in architecture, sustainability analysis, and teaching. At HED, she focuses on research and development to enhance environmental performance and leads the development of life cycle assessment efforts. Passionate about sustainable design, she combines technical expertise with a commitment to advancing sustainability in architecture.
